Business Association Festivals and Events
The BID area includes several Trading and Business Associations. Each street, and neighbourhood, within the area is unique and filled with independent shops and services and lend to York's distinctive character. To draw footfall and visitors to these areas, several trading and business associations organise seasonal events that are a must-see. The BID has supported several projects that have been proven successes for these local areas, and as a result, have benefited the businesses with increased publicity, promotion and marketing.
Did we forget to mention? These events are a whole lot of fun for everyone too!
The new Fossgate banner was officially revealed in 2018, naming this area of the city as the Merchants’ Quarter. The two-year project saw close collaboration between the Fossgate Traders and the York Civic Trust on a design that nods to a historical fish markets that once lined the street. York BID is keen to encourage trade associations and independent businesses who are prepared to work together to improve their trading environment.
Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge
The York BID was a proud sponsor of the Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge in 2017, 2018 and 2019. This fantastic event is hugely popular, and has a positive impact on the whole city as well as the Micklegate traders who work very hard to host it. In 2017 over 15,000 people lined Micklegate to watch the go-karts charge down the street. With around 17% of visitors choosing to stay the night, an independent evaluation estimated the event was worth £1.2m to the city. The BID was the headline sponsor of the 2018 event which takes place on August Bank Holiday Monday.
