Business Association Festivals and Events
The BID area includes several Trading and Business Associations. Each street, and neighbourhood, within the area is unique and filled with independent shops and services and lend to York's distinctive character. To draw footfall and visitors to these areas, several trading and business associations organise seasonal events that are a must-see. The BID has supported several projects that have been proven successes for these local areas, and as a result, have benefited the businesses with increased publicity, promotion and marketing.
Did we forget to mention? These events are a whole lot of fun for everyone too!
Throughout the Summer, the BID have been proud to support each of the five Fossgate Festivals; home to live music, street food, outside cider, keg beer and cocktail bars, barbecues, face painting and so much more! Many thousands were entertained over the course of the Summer, perhaps you even saw the BID’s stilt walkers, or maybe you heard our Town Crier promoting the events?! Either way, it was great to see such a wonderful atmosphere on the street and we’re pleased to have been a part.
The BID are proud to have been a Gold sponsor of 2017’s Micklegate Run, a fantastic event enjoyed by around 20,000 people. The Micklegate Business Initiative pulled out all the stops to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever. Almost 50 teams participated in the fun, starting off from a huge ramp at the top of a twisting, turning, tumultuous track! The fastest soapbox racers on the day were York’s Digital Image team who came in at an amazing 29.99 seconds – very well done.
With live music, street food and drinks served up with sunshine all day, the real winner was Micklegate itself. The day presents a unique opportunity for businesses to show off their street and all of its charm. We for one can’t wait for next year.
