Yormed Student Support

The student population is important to York’s economy. During Freshers Week the York BID and the University of York joined forces to enhance student safety. River safety in York has been a concern for many and the BID worked with YorMed to provide two ambulances and crew, positioned strategically near the river walkways.

Over this period, the ambulance patrol made 16 interventions with students in trouble, either treating them at the scene or transporting them to a recovery centre. Not only did this remove students from immediate danger but saved the NHS over £5,500.

Dr Rob Aitken, director of colleges at the University of York said: “The University of York is delighted to work with our partners in the city to ensure our students have a safe and enjoyable time.”
