York BID starts the big city clean up

York is about to undergo a major spring clean.

The York BID has put together a schedule to deep clean streets in the city centre. Following the success of last year's clean, this even more comprehensive programme will make York's streets sparkle.

Using specialist equipment, fitted with rotary head hot washers, the cleaning team can remove dirt, grime and gum from the streets.

Did you know…?

  • there is an average of 5-15 pieces of gum stuck to every square metre
  • we cleaned 50K square metres last year
  • York stone buffs up beautifully – after cleaning its true colour comes through, which depends on the quarry where it came from.
