York Restaurant Week
In 2019 the York BID launched and ran the first ever York Restaurant Week. A celebration of York’s vibrant food and drinks scene, the event saw 41 restaurants and cafés take part, offering special set menus at £10, £15 and £20.
The week proved to be a huge success. More than 200,000 people visited the dedicated website, and 5,750 vouchers were downloaded – equating to more than £77,000 of business for city centre food outlets.
York Restaurant Week further raised the profile of the sector, as social media surrounding the event reached a potential audience of over one million.
One of the key aims of the week, which ran from 1-7 April, was to encourage people to eat out in the city centre at a traditionally quieter time of year. And nearly nine out of ten of the businesses that took part said it brought in new customers.
Overall, we enjoyed the event and appreciate the effort which went into it. We even gained new customers who have returned since the event already!
Kendall Craven-Evans, General Manager at Los Moros
The event was absolutely fantastic! So many people were interested and most of them were based in York and surrounding areas. There are not enough events in York oriented towards locals and local businesses.
Neringa Didzgalvyte, Restaurant Manager at Mr P's Curious Tavern
Plans are being drawn up to hold the second York Restaurant Week in March 2020.
