New conference shines a light on York’s thriving professional services sector

A new event celebrating York’s growing professional services community is set to launch this summer, bringing together businesses from across the city to connect, collaborate and help shape the future of the sector.

Momentum York takes place on Tuesday 23rd June 2026 at the York St John University Creative Centre, welcoming more than 100 professionals, exhibitors and city leaders for an afternoon focused on the opportunities, challenges and developments shaping York’s future economy.

Rachel Bean, Project Manager at York BID said: “There is a huge amount of change, investment and opportunity happening across York right now, making this an exciting time to bring the professional services sector together. Momentum York will create space for businesses to connect, share insight and build relationships, while also shining a light on the exciting work already happening across the city.”

Momentum York has been created to help bring the city’s professional services sector into the spotlight, showcasing the breadth of expertise and innovation already here across York. The event will feature York-based businesses spanning industries including marketing, IT, legal and financial services, HR and recruitment, consultancy, and property management.

Alongside networking opportunities, there’s the chance to hear about some of the major developments transforming the city, while exploring what these changes mean for businesses and future growth in York.

Susie Mortonson, Chair of York Professionals and Partner at Andrew Jackson Solicitors, said: “York is widely recognised for its heritage, hospitality and tourism offer, but the city is also home to an incredibly strong and diverse professional services sector, and we know this due to the strong membership profile of York Professionals. Across York, talented people and ambitious businesses deliver innovative work every day, often quietly behind closed doors. We’re excited to work with York BID and the other partners to bring the community together and build an even stronger identity for the sector.”

The inaugural conference has been co-designed with representatives from across the sector and centres around one key question: Why York? Organisers hope the event will help strengthen connections between businesses of all sizes – from micro-businesses and SMEs to larger firms and institutions – while building further momentum for professional services in the city.

Momentum York is proudly supported by York BID, York Business School at York St John University, York Professionals, City of York Council, HSBC, West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, and with vital funding support from David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
