York BID runs a range of initiatives designed to reduce the impact of crime and anti-social behaviour in the city centre – all as part of our Purple Flag agenda: creating a safe, vibrant, and diverse city for everyone to enjoy.
Radio Scheme
The city-wide radio scheme and Sentry Secure Intelligence System are valuable tools for sharing real-time updates on crime, anti-social behaviour, and potential offenders.
York BID are excited to offer Apex Radio Systems to BID and voluntary members for a reduced price of £25 per month + VAT to help you stay connected, informed, and protected.

PubWatch & ShopWatch
Join the York PubWatch and ShopWatch schemes to work with other city centre businesses on safety initiatives.
PubWatch is a city-wide meeting bringing together licensed venues and community partners with the aim of achieving safe, secure, and responsibly-led licensed premises. York BID aims to relaunch York's ShopWatch scheme shortly.

Best Bar None
This Home Office-backed independent assessment celebrates excellence in responsible management and operation of licensed premises.
York BID is thrilled have launched Best Bar None in York city centre. The independent assesment is free to BID and voluntary members, and helps customers easily identify well-managed, responsible pubs, bars, clubs, and other businesses that serve alcohol.

Purple Flag
York is independently assessed each year to check that our night-time offer is being managed to make it as safe as it can be.
Similar to the Blue Flag award for safe beaches, Purple Flag is an award from the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM), that recognises destinations that demonstrate exceptional standards in their evening and late-night offerings.
York BID proudly coordinates the city’s Purple Flag status and our commitment to working in close partnership with city-centre stakeholders was highlighted by the ATCM when awarding the Purple Flag to York.
