Throughout 2024, York BID rejuvenated 700 pieces of individual infrastructure, thanks to the support of over 200 volunteers.
The Rejuvenation Days are about coming together to keep York looking its best by cleaning and repainting street furniture like bike racks, benches, bollards, and more.
The initiative was born out of the Cleaning & Rejuvenation Partners meeting; a bimonthly gathering between York BID, City of York Council, York Civic Trust, and Make It York, that identified tired-looking street furniture as detracting from the city’s overall appearance.
The project has taken place in January, May, and September and has grown in strength each time, with a total 700 pieces of individual street furniture being repainted in Parliament Street, Kings Staith, Piccadilly, Clifford Street, Tower Gardens, North Street Gardens, Museum Street, Dame Judi Dench Walk and many more locations.
The next volunteering sessions will be held in March, June, and September 2025. Sign up via Rejuvenation Days | Eventbrite.
Rejuvenation Days are an extension of the work done by our brilliant Cleaning Team who work seven days a week to keep the city centre looking its best. Our Cleaning Team prepare for the Rejuvenation Days by cleaning street furniture, polishing off stickers and posters, and removing weeds and moss, and also help coordinate volunteers on the day.
As well as cleaning and painting street furniture, our team of volunteers also replanted the BID mini-meadows across the city in October, helping ensure they stay looking their best throughout the cold winter months.
