BID brings star retailer to York to discuss the future of the High Street

One of the biggest names in retailing is coming to York to talk about the future of the High Street.

Bill Grimsey, who masterminded the turnaround of DIY group Wickes when he was CEO, will bring all his business knowhow to bear at a talk for York Business Week 2018.

York BID invited Bill to share his views on the dramatic structural changes affecting the UK retail sector.

As well as his time at Wickes, Bill spent five years at the helm of Iceland, which was renamed the Big Food Group and was later bought out by Icelandic investors Baugur Group. Most recently, he worked with private equity backers heading the Focus DIY chain.

Formidable analyst

He is a formidable analyst of retailing trends, not least on his website Vanishing High Street UK. In his book Sold Out Bill reveals why so many shops are now empty – and offers a practical and realistic vision for the future of the High Street, which can cater for the needs we really have today.

He is also the man behind the influential Grimsey Review, written with eight other expert associates, which put forward 31 recommendations for reviving the High Street.

It will be a fascinating and insightful evening – and it's free. Don't miss it!
